Quotations

Sometimes, we may hesitate to honestly consider the possibility of a creator, due to the widespread impression that science and belief in a God are incompatible. The purpose of this page, therefore, is to demonstrate that countless respected scientists and acclaimed academic figures in various fields have, and still do, believe in a God who created the world as we know it. Science and religion are reconcilable.

Albert Einstein, Nobel Laureate in Physics
“We are in the position of a little child entering a huge library filled with books in many different languages. The child knows someone must have written those books. It does not know how. It does not understand the languages in which they are written. The child dimly suspects a mysterious order in the arrangement of the books, but doesn’t know what it is. That, it seems to me, is the attitude of even the most intelligent human being toward God. We see a Universe marvellously arranged and obeying certain laws, but only dimly understand these laws. Our limited minds cannot grasp the mysterious force that moves the constellations.” (As cited in Denis Brian, Einstein: A Life, New York, John Wiley and Sons, 1996, 186).
“Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind” (Jammer 2002; Einstein 1967, 30).
Max Planck, Nobel Laureate in Physics
“Both religion and science need for their activities the belief in God, and moreover God stands for the former in the beginning, and for the latter at the end of the whole thinking. For the former, God represents the basis, for the latter – the crown of any reasoning concerning the world-view.” (Religion und Naturwissenschaft, Leipzig: Johann Ambrosius Barth Verlag, 1958, 27).
Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1747), founder of Classical Physics and Infinitesimal Calculus
“This most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets, could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being. This Being governs all things, not as the soul of the world, but as Lord over all; and on account of His dominion He is wont to be called Lord God.” (1687, Principia).
Rene Descartes (1596-1650), founder of Analytical Geometry and Modern Philosophy
“And thus I very clearly see that the certitude and truth of all science depends on the knowledge alone of the true God, insomuch that, before I knew him, I could have no perfect knowledge of any other thing. And now that I know him, I possess the means of acquiring a perfect knowledge respecting innumerable matters, as well relative to God himself and other intellectual objects as to corporeal nature.” (1901, Meditation V).

"The book 50 NOBEL LAUREATES AND OTHER GREAT SCIENTISTS WHO BELIEVE IN GOD comprises well-documented quotations from some of the most influential scientists and writers in the world. In the course of my 11-year search I have studied hundreds of books, articles and letters – primarily those found in the archives of the National Library of Bulgaria (Sofia), Biblioteca Comunale di Milano and the Austrian National Library (Vienna). I have also corresponded with many contemporary Nobel Prize-winning scientists who have shared their personal beliefs about God. I believe that this book will inspire believers, that it will give hope to seekers and that it will challenge those who think that religion and contemporary science are in an insurmountable conflict." - Tihomir Dimitrov, compiler
