About Us

________________________________________________________________________________________ Purpose and Goals

Without Excuse hopes to provide centralized, organized access to resources for researching facts and perspectives about the origin of life on earth. In an effort to encourage open discussion between those of different beliefs, different perspectives are linked under each topic. In this way, it is our hope that you can have confidence that you understand different sides of the issue as you come to your conclusion. It is impossible to be unbiased about an issue like this, so if you wish to read about our views, we offer brief personal statements below. Finally, we would like to make it clear that we do not believe that science alone, as it has come to be defined currently, can prove anything about our beginnings. Each of us must compile knowledge from personal experiences, writings, peers, and experts to decide what seems to be the best explanation.

If you have any advice on how we can improve this website to help you, or if you have any other questions or comments, please feel free to contact us. We would greatly appreciate your help!

A Message from the Authors

Amanda Smelser
I am convinced from various types of evidences as well as the existence of laws of logic that the Bible is the revelation of God, known as Jehovah or Yahweh, to mankind. "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God" (2 Tim. 3:16), and "no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit" (2 Pet. 1:21) On this premise, then, and the premise that every work of literature has an intended meaning from its author, I currently believe that the earth was created by God in six 24-hour days. I also believe that natural selection is a mechanism by which species can adapt to their environments.
Humans are fallible in their interpretation of of the Bible as well as their logic in scientific investigations, but through discussion with those of different perspectives we can refine our understanding of truth. Please be willing to accept challenges to your beliefs, whatever they are. You will be infused with a refreshing confidence in the knowledge that you have honestly searched and come to your own conclusions based on evidences.
This discussion is not a two-sided one; there are as many sides to this discussion as there are questions about why we exist on this planet. My hope is that we can evaluate individual beliefs critically rather than dogmatically defending a traditional body of beliefs, such as "Creation" or "Evolution," without qualification. I would also like to make it clear that I do not believe science alone can prove anything about our origins; science is a beautiful tool for understanding the world, but it has limits. Rather, we must determine what is the most likely explanation as though we were jurists in a court of law.

Hi! I am an undergraduate student studying Biology at Rhode Island College. As a firm believer in the Bible and in the intelligent design described therein, my studies in the field of life science have only supported my faith. I hope that you will honestly consider the evidence provided on either side of the origins debate as you explore this site. Apply unbiased reason to the evidence and come to your own conclusion concerning our origins. Thanks for participating in this important conversation!

The Name

"Without Excuse" comes from the Bible, in Romans 1:20, where it reads:
"For since the creation of the world [God's] invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and divine nature, so that they are without excuse..."
